BRAVE EMPEROR’S third Group victory of the year got October off to a flying start – but success at Saxon Gate wasn’t confined to the racecourse.
At the Horses in Training Sales at Tattersalls in Newmarket, prolific gelding He’s A Monster went under the hammer for 450,000 gns to continue his career in Qatar.
Lone Star Investments’ three-year-old son of No Nay Never won five times in just nine starts and was unbeaten in four races on the All-Weather, achieving an official rating of 104. He was bought for 160,000 euros at the Goffs Orby Sales as a yearling and won £40,000 in prize money.
Brave Emperor maintained his globetrotting prowess with victory in the Group 3 Grosser Preis der Landeshauptstadt over the extended mile at Dusseldorf under regular partner Luke Morris. His win had special significance for owners Middleham Park, who celebrated their 1,500th success in their now familiar sky blue silks.
Meanwhile, our amateur jockey Brodie Hampson continued her fine form with two more winners, the first a notable one on Alazwar at Ascot in the opening week of the month. It was the five-year-old’s first win of the year and reward for his close second at Newmarket two weeks earlier.
Brodie duly followed up on Breguet Boy at Windsor on Monday, 23rd. The six-year-old was winning for the first time for Archie and the team, keeping on well to land an extended 11-furlong handicap in heavy conditions.
Secret Bid, gelded after his second career start in August, made a winning re-appearance in a seven-furlong Wolverhampton maiden for owner-breeder John Deer. The son of Al Kazeem made all the running to justify favouritism for Luke Morris.
And there was a treble for stable jockey Hollie Doyle when Fifty Year Storm scored in a sprint handicap at Brighton later in the month. Wearing first-time cheekpieces, she supplemented her juvenile success for Lone Star Investments off an official mark of 70.
