Moon On The Rise After Sandown Win

SCARLET MOON opened up his options with an impressive win at Sandown Park at the end of July. Arbib Bloodstock’s three-year-old supplemented the three All-Weather wins he achieved earlier this year with his first success on turf in the capable hands of stable jockey Hollie Doyle.

The son of Sea The Moon and Listed winning dam Star Rock saw out the mile and three-quarter trip powerfully to earn a 4lb rise to a new rating of 81 and open up more options in staying handicaps.

Earlier in the month, promising two-year-old Underwriter won for the second time this season at Ayr for Wathnan Racing and James Doyle. Though he was unable to build on that in the Group 2 Richmond Stakes at the Qatar Goodwood Festival, he holds entries in the Gimcrack at York and the Mill Reef at Newbury.

There was also juvenile success for Athena Thoroughbred Racing’s Indy B, who dead-heated in a six-furlong novice at Salisbury. Ridden by William Cox, the daughter of Mehmas looked likely to win the race outright until being joined on the line by the better fancied Distant Shore.

Meanwhile, Luke Morris was in charge when Campenaerts made every yard of the running to win a five-furlong nursery around Wolverhampton the previous day. Gelded after finishing fourth in novice company at Bath, the son of Sergei Prokofiev was always in command for owners Saain on his handicap debut.

On 8th July Time Test colt Snake Charmer proved too good for his rivals in a seven-furlong Bath maiden with Hollie in control, making all to confirm the promise of a previous effort at Haydock Park.

Aurora Majesty returned to form in impressive fashion in a seven-furlong handicap at Epsom for Hollie en route to Goodwood where he went on to run a solid race in defeat, finishing a close third. The Epsom win was his third this year for owner Salem Rashid Bin Ghadayer.

Meanwhile, there was success away from the racecourse for owners Primavera whose Basalt sold for 220,000 gns at Tattersalls July Sales in Newmarket. A novice winner at Newcastle last September, the three-year-old colt was bought by Blandford Bloodstock for 60,000 euros at the Arqana Breeze-ups in May last year.
