Middleham Park Racing’s International star BRAVE EMPEROR set himself up for an attempt at a second consecutive win in the Premio Vittorio Di Capua in Italy after scoring a fourth career Group 3 success there in mid-October.
Our son of Sioux Nation achieved the sixth stakes success of his illustrious career when dominating the Premio del Piazzale Memorial Enrico Camici in Milan under regular jockey Luke Morris ahead of a return to the San Siro in November.
“It was great to see him back to form and doing what he does best, picking up another international Group race,” said Archie. “He tanked through the race, was left in front a long way down and was really tough in the straight to hold them off.
“He has an incredible attitude and Luke gave him another brilliant ride. It’s fantastic for all his owners at Middleham Park Racing and we look to go back to Milan on 10th November for the race he won last year.”
His 11th win in 22 starts took his earnings to almost £600,000, giving Middleham Park their 81st winner of the year. A full report of his success appears on this site.
On the domestic front there was a debut success for two-year-old filly Layla Liz in a Leicester novice stakes mid-month. Our daughter of Inns Of Court was given a fine ride by Laura Coughlan, getting home by a narrow margin over six furlongs in testing conditions.
Sheikh Ahmed Al Maktoum’s Feeraas got off the mark in a seven-furlong Musselburgh nursery at the beginning of October. Gelded in the summer, he got the better of a sustained duel to score at the fifth attempt with Paul Mulrennan on board.
Meanwhile, Southwell was the destination for Wiltshire Wonder the following week and Jonny Allison’s four-year-old made no mistake in a mile and a half handicap under stable jockey Hollie Doyle. He fought hard to regain the lead and score a first success on the Flat off a rating of 73.
In Ireland, stable stalwart Albasheer acquitted himself well in Group 3 company on the Dundalk Polytrack, finishing well to be beaten only a length in fifth from a difficult draw under regular rider Hollie, confirming himself in good heart ahead of likely All-Weather Championship targets.
By the end of October Archie was in California supervising Bradsell’s swansong in the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint and star two-year-old Aesterius’s attempt at the Juvenile version. An update on both stable stars will appear in next month’s review.
