More Continental Raids For Germany Winner Shartash

Pattern races abroad could be on the agenda this autumn for back-to-form SHARTASH following his Listed success in Germany on Sunday 5th October.

Wathnan Racing’s gelding returned from a three-month break to take the Grosser Sparkassen Familien-Cup over seven furlongs on soft ground at Dusseldorf with Luke Morris in the saddle.

Archie says: “It was great to see him back in stakes winning form and I’m delighted for Wathnan Racing. Luke gave him a great ride, everything went smoothly, and he got a good trip round and really put his head down in the straight to get by the leader.

“These turning tracks and soft ground really suit him and we’ll see if there is anything else for him on the continent this Autumn.”

Shartash overcame a wide draw to get the better of a lengthy tussle with home raider Pershing, who finished half a length behind him and nearly two lengths ahead of the Charlie Fellowes-trained British challenger Rockymountainway.

It was the 99-rated five-year-old’s sixth career win and third for Archie following a conditions success at Thirsk in April 2024 and the Listed Spring Trophy Stakes at Haydock Park last year.
