AURORA MAJESTY established himself as a colt with potential after winning both starts on the All-Weather in March, earning a crack at the Group 3 Classic trial, the Greenham Stakes, at Newbury.
Salem Rashid Bin Ghadayer’s chestnut made an impressive debut in a seven-furlong Newcastle maiden at the beginning of the month, justifying short odds under stable jockey Hollie Doyle before following up under a penalty at Wolverhampton 12 days later.
Well backed to land that novice over the same distance, our son of Night Of Thunder had three and a half lengths to spare over his nearest rival with Hollie again doing the steering.
Also flying the flag for Saxon Gate was our former Godolphin recruit Commanding Prince, a lightly raced four-year-old who emulated Aurora Majesty by winning twice in succession in the space of 10 days.
This 25,000gns purchase by Blandford Bloodstock got off the mark in a mile novice stakes at Newcastle on 10th March before scoring again at Gosforth Park, this time over 7 furlongs for long-standing owner Jonny Allison and Partners.
Meanwhile, Wolverhampton was the destination for Spartan Arrow and Hollie as they took a five-furlong dash by a hard-fought nose. Hambleton Racing’s five-year-old got up on the line to defy a rating of 90 on only his second start for the stable after leaving Simon and Ed Crisford.
There was also success over hurdles as Collingham won a Catterick claimer early in the month. Formerly trained by Donald McCain, the seven-year-old took up the running after two out and galloped well to the winning post for our own Brodie Hampson on his stable debut.
